Saltdogs Add to Roster

The Lincoln Saltdogs have added to their pitching staff by signing right-handed pitcher Michael Kesten (LS-2). Kesten pitched last season for the Chillicothe Paints (Ind.) of the Frontier League, before being signed by the Astros organization and assigned to Salem, their Single-A affiliate.

Kesten was 0-1 for the Salem Avalanche (A) of the Carolina League where he played with Brian Rodaway, a former Husker who was signed by the Saltdogs this past week.

At Chillicothe Kesten went 7-8 with a 3.02 ERA with 141 strike-outs and 47 walks in 128 1/3 innings worked. In 18 starts for the Paints, Kesten had six complete games and one shutout.

Kesten, 6’ 3” and 225 pounds, is a Bellflower, California native. His career totals in six seasons of professional baseball include a record of 16-23 with an ERA of 3.87. He has 288 strike-outs and 161 walks in 297 1/3 innings of pitching. Kesten was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Seattle Mariners in 1999.

The Lincoln Saltdogs are scheduled to open the season at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 20th in Sioux Falls, SD against the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The 2005 home opener is set for May 23rd against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 pm at Haymarket Park. For tickets call 474-BALL.
