Saltdogs Sign Puerto Rico Native

(Lincoln, NE) * Right-handed pitcher Fernando De Aza (LS-2) has signed a professional contract with the Lincoln Saltdogs. De Aza pitched last season for the Pennsylvania Road Warriors (Ind.) of the Atlantic League where he went 1-7 with a 4.54 ERA. In 73 1/3 innings pitched, De Aza walked 43 and struck out 48 batters.

A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, De Aza was signed as a free agent by the Chicago White Sox in 2002 after pitching one year at the University of Evansville. The 2005 season will be De Aza’s fourth year of professional baseball. His career totals include a record of 8-13 with an ERA of 3.28 and 157 strike-outs.

The Lincoln Saltdogs are scheduled to open the season at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 20th in Sioux Falls, SD against the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The 2005 home opener is set for May 23rd against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 pm at Haymarket Park. For tickets call 474-BALL.
