Saltdogs Add Southpaw and RHP
Saltdogs Manager Tim Johnson has announced that left-handed pitcher Brian Nendza (LS-1) and right-hander Chris Mowday (LS-4) have agreed to terms with the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Nendza, 6' 6" and 200 pounds, spent the 2004 season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Pioneer) where he appeared in 24 games and had a record of 5-3 with an ERA of 6.70. In 43 innings pitched, Nendza walked 25 and struck out 52 and gave up 32 earned runs. In 2003, his rookie season, Nendza pitched for the Royals 2 of the Arizona League, where he had a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 3.41. "Brian has all the physical characteristics to be a great pitcher. He is big, strong and a lefty," said Saltdogs Pitching Coach Jim Allen. "He can be a dominant force in the Northern League this season."
A native of Palos Park, Illinois, Nendza played college baseball for North Central College. He signed as a free agent by the Kansas City Royals on March 5th, 2003 and has a career record of 8-3 with a 5.30 ERA.
Chris Mowday, a native of Strathpine, Australia, played in the Chicago Cubs minor league system last season. Mowday had a 3-1 record and an ERA of 1.96 with the Daytona Cubs (A). In 55 innings pitched, Mowday walked 31 and struck out 59, while giving up 12 earned runs. He began his professional career in 1998 after signing as a free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
The Lincoln Saltdogs are scheduled to open the season at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 20th in Sioux Falls, SD against the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium.
The 2005 home opener is set for May 23rd against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 pm at Haymarket Park. For tickets call 474-BALL.
