Saltdogs Take Home Opener
For the first time in franchise history, the Lincoln Saltdogs scored more than 10 runs in four straight games. Following the 40 runs scored in three games against Sioux Falls, the Saltdogs scored 11 to win their second straight game, 11-6 over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Alex Carbajal started the game for Lincoln and picked up his first win of the year. The loss went to Adam Gautreau who went 3.2 innings allowing six runs on seven hits.
The Saltdogs carried the momentum from the previous series into their home opener at Haymarket Park with 4,443 in attendance. In the bottom of the first inning after Corey Harris reached on an error and right-fielder Bryan Warner drove Harris home with his second home run of the year off Gautreau. The blast just cleared the fence in right-center field giving Lincoln an early 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Warner made it two for two with his second home run. He took a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right field and out of Haymarket Park. Josh Patton continued the inning with a double to left-center field. He moved over to third on a ground out and scored on an error.
Harry Berrios answered for Winnipeg in the top of the fourth with a home run of his own to left-center field, the deepest part of Haymarket Park. The lead was cut to 4-1.
In the top of the fifth inning Berrios had an answer for Warner's second home run with his own double dip. Berrios took an 0-2 pitch from Carbajal deep to left center field driving in two runs and cutting the lead to 6-3.
Winnipeg cut deeper into the Saltdogs' lead in the top of the seventh with the fifth home run of the game. Odannis Ayala hit his second home run of the year making the score 6-4 Lincoln.
The night of home runs continued in the top of the eighth inning with Goldeye first baseman Donnie Ross taking Saltdog pitcher Fernando De Aza out of the park to right field. The fourth home run of the game for Winnipeg shrunk the Lincoln lead to 6-5.
In the bottom of the eight, Saltdogs' bats exploded for five runs on six hits. Lincoln sent nine batters to the plate in the inning. Kevin Grijak picked up two of his four RBIs on the day with a two out double to finish the scoring for Lincoln.
The Saltdogs return to action on Tuesday night for the second game of the series against Winnipeg.
