Saltdogs Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Fargo 12-3
(Lincoln, NE) - Fargo-Moorhead fought back in game two to even the series with the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Saturday. A six-run first inning game RedHawk starter Mike Peschel (2-0) all the support he would need going 6 1/3 innings and picking up his second win of the year. Saltdogs starter Alex Carbajal (1-1) took the loss going four innings and allowing six earned runs.
The RedHawks batted around in the first inning sending six runs across the plate. Five of the first six RedHawks reached base. Ruben Salazar picked up an RBI on a fly ball to center field and Richard Austin sent two more home with a single. In all 10 batters came to the plate against Carbajal.
In the bottom of the inning, Lincoln was able to get one run back. Cory Harris lead off with a double and came home on the second double of the inning from Bryan Warner. After one inning Fargo had the lead 6-1.
Fargo scored another pair of runs in the fourth inning. Brian Ward hit a one out single and came home after a double from Salazar to extend the RedHawk lead to 8-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Saltdogs started to get back into the game with a first pitch homerun from Cory Harris, his third of the year.
The flood gates opened for Fargo in the seventh inning. Salazar began the inning with a one out single. He came home on an inside the park home run by Eric Kofler. On the play right fielder Bryan Warner was injured when he climbed the wall to try and make the catch. Warner was helped off the field under his own power and was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
When play resumed Kelley Gulledge was hit by a pitch and Clyde Williams cleared the bases with the second round tripper of the inning. The RedHawks had a 12-2 lead going to the bottom of the seventh.
Lincoln got another run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Josh Patton hit his second home run of the year to left field.
Lincoln and Fargo split the first two games of their three game series with the rubber match on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 2:05 pm at Haymarket Park.
