Saltdogs Win Series with Winnipeg
For the second time in as many series, the Lincoln Saltdogs have closed with a victory. Under some rainy skies the Dogs improved to 5-2 in the South Division after a 7-3 win at Haymarket Park against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Winnipeg began the final game of their four game series with two runs in the top of the first inning. Rusty McNamara started with a single that landed on the wall in left field and he came home on a round-tripper from Odannis Ayala.
In the bottom of the second, Lincoln showed they could hit the long ball as well. Cary Harris led off the inning with a single. After advancing to second on a pass ball, Harris scored on a Bryan Warner single. Josh Patton finished the scoring in the inning with his first home run of the year just inside the foul pole to right field.
The next four innings were scoreless and going into the sixth inning the score was 3-2 in favor of the Saltdogs.
In the bottom of the inning the Saltdogs scored three runs. Two came off an RBI double from Cory Harris. After six Lincoln led 6-2.
Winnipeg struck back in the seventh inning with a run of their own. Max Poulin walked and scored on a sacrifice fly from Harry Berrios to close the lead to 6-3.
An insurance run came in the bottom of the eighth for Lincoln. With one down, Kevin Sullivan tripled to right field. He came home on another trip from Mike Goss to make the score 7-3.
The Saltdogs are tied for first place in the South Division and continue their seven game home stand on Friday night against the visiting Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks who are 5-1 on the season. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
