Saltdogs Even Series with Gary

LINCOLN -- The Lincoln Saltdogs final broke through at home against the Gary SouthShore RailCats with a 4-3 victory on Wednesday night. The RailCats were unbeaten at Haymarket Park this year coming into the game. All seven runs came across in the third inning for both teams with Ben Fox picking up the win in his first ever appearance for the Dogs. He went 6 1/3 innings allowing three runs on five hits. Gary starter Jamie Bennett took the loss for only the third time this season going six innings and giving up four runs.

In the top of the third Curt Lee started the Cats with a single. After an Eric McNamee walked, Fehlandt Lentini brought both runs home on a double and he stole home to score the final run of the evening for Gary.

In the bottom half of the frame, Lincoln came right back scoring all the runs they would need. Cory Harris led off the inning with a single, and scored after a pair of singles by Albenis Machado and Bryan Warner drove him in. Pichi Balet then hit a sacrifice fly to shallow right field scoring Machado from third. Dan Underwood cleared the bases later in the inning with a double to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Dogs.

Wes O'Brien and Jared Hoerman combined to throw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for Lincoln with Hoerman picking up his 11th save of the year. The Dogs and Cats will play the rubber game of the series on Thursday night with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
