Saltdogs Even up KC Series
LINCOLN, Neb. - Albenis Machado and Mike Goss each homered in their second straight game to lift the Lincoln Saltdogs (41-31, 14-10) to a 5-3 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones. Lincoln starter Humberto Cardenas (4-4) picked up the win going 7 1/3 innings and allowing three runs. Jon McDonald fell to 5-4 with the loss for Kansas City (37-34, 10-15).
Lincoln used a lead-off single by Cory Harris to take the early 1-0 against Kansas City. Albenis Machado followed Harris with another single and Harris was able to score after a pair of fielder's choices to give Lincoln their first lead in the series.
The lead didn't last long however as David Segui crushed a 2-1 pitch from Cardenas over the right field wall and out of Haymarket Park for a 2-run homer. It was Segui's fifth round trip of the year and it gave Kansas City the lead at 2-1.
Machado answered Segue in the bottom of the third inning with his second homer in as many nights. This one, his fifth of the season, just cleared the right field fence to tie the game at two.
Goss also made it two home runs in two days against the T-Bones with a bomb that hit off the scoreboard in right field. He homered with Underwood on first base to pick up his 38th and 39th RBIs of the year.
The scoreboard got plunked again in the top of the sixth inning as Greg Jacobs launched a solo shot to right field, bringing K.C. to within one, 4-3, of Lincoln.
The Saltdogs finished the scoring in the game with one run in the sixth frame. Josh Patton hit a one-out single and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches by McDonald. Kevin Sullivan just missed a home run to the deepest part of Haymarket Park. His shot hit halfway up the wall at the 400 mark in right-center field scoring Patton and giving Sullivan his third triple of the year.
Lincoln extended their lead to a full game in the Southern Division with the win and a Gary loss. The rubber game of the series will take place at 7:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
