Saltdogs Win Game #2 with St. Paul
LINCOLN, Neb. * What began as a pitchers duel ended with a Lincoln Saltdogs 5-0 victory over the St. Paul Saints and a complete game victory for Brian Rodaway. The former Husker pitcher improved to 5-1 and only allowing three hits and four walks. Darren Truty (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the year. He threw seven innings while giving up two earned runs.
In the bottom of the third inning the Saltdogs broke the 0-0 deadlock. Mike Goss started the Saltdogs with a lead-off single. He stole second base and advanced to third after an errant pick off throw from the catcher Jeremy Frost went into center field. Albenis Machado brought Goss home when he grounded out to second.
The Saltdogs took advantage of St. Paul errors in the seventh inning. Kevin Sullivan reached on a fielder’s choice and scored off a wild pitch from Truty. Goss followed with a single and was able to come around and score after a passed ball got past Frost.
Rodaway picked up more run support in the bottom of the eighth inning. Two walks started the Dogs threat with Cory Harris and Jake Whitesides reaching base. Harris came around to score off an RBI single from Warner to give Lincoln a 4-0 lead. Pichi Balet ended the scoring for the Saltdogs with a sacrifice fly to center field.
This was the first shutout of the year for the Saltdogs and the fourth complete game of the season for Rodaway who leads the Northern League in complete games. He has now gone 17 innings without allowing a run.
The rubber game of the three game series between St. Paul and Lincoln will be Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park. Lincoln is now one game back of Kansas City for first place in the Southern Division.
