'Dogs Lose Third Straight Game
Rodney Myers allowed only seven hits on Sunday in Winnipeg, Manitoba, en route to his first complete game of the year. Unfortunately for Myers, the Lincoln Saltdogs weren't able to overcome the Goldeyes' three-run second inning and dropped a 3-2 decision to Winnipeg. It was Lincoln's third straight loss, all in this series, and cut Lincoln's second-half lead in the Northern League South Division. Lincoln (24-17) now leads by a game and a half over Gary (23-19) and two games over St. Paul (22-19). Gary defeated Joliet 10-3 on Sunday and St. Paul stopped Sioux Falls 4-1.
The Saltdogs opened the scoring in the top of the second when Josh Patton hit a leadoff double and scored on a wild pitch.Winnipeg, however, took control of the game with an offensive outburst in the home half of the inning. Myers allowed four singles in the inning. Kevan Burns singled to drive in the first run, tying the score at 1-1, and was one of two Goldeyes to score on Max Poulin's bases-loaded single later in the inning.Lincoln cut the deficit to 3-2 in the seventh when Jay Yaconetti double and scored on Cory Harris' single. That chased Winnipeg starter Roger Luque, but the Goldeyes' bullpen slammed the door shut on the Saltdogs' hopes.
Luque (6-7) got the win after allowing two runs on nine hits in 71/3 innings. He also walked two and struck out three. Myers (10-4) struck out six and walked only one.
